ITEC Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy Level 3 and 4 Combined

We here at The Gorey Institute have combined Level 3 and 4 of the Sports Massage Courses to ensure Graduates are competent in all aspects of Sports Massage Therapy. 

LEVEL 3

This qualification is for Learners who want to work within the Sports Industry. The qualification consists of 5 mandatory units. 
 
The main skills the Learner will perform are:  Consultation methods – to include obtaining informed consent prior to assessments and application of the massage where necessary, carrying out accurate client assessments, obtaining information on the possible cautions and contraindications to massage before commencing any treatments, adapting the massage routine to meet the specific needs of the client   Applying Sports Massage Treatments – to include preparing a safe and hygienic working environment, performing pre-event, Inter/intra-event and post-event massage techniques, maintenance, selecting massage mediums, posture, evaluating the effectiveness of the treatment and giving aftercare advice  The Learner will also develop knowledge about client care and communication, health, safety and hygiene, relevant legislation and professional standards which are essential to work and be successful in the Industry 
 
This qualification also provides:
 
 The related knowledge and understanding required to perform the Sports Massage Therapy listed above effectively, in particular knowledge of anatomy and physiology for Sports Massage, understanding the principles of soft tissue dysfunction, professional practice in Sports Massage and the principles of health and fitness that may influence the treatment  Opportunities for Learners to focus on the development of their wider skills in a Sports Massage setting, such as communicating with clients, working with others and problem solving   Opportunities for Learners to develop a range of skills, techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in employment as a Sports Massage Therapist

 

LEVEL 4

The main aim of the ITEC Level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy is to enable learners to gain the practical and theoretical skills necessary to provide Sports Massage Therapy.  It has been designed for practitioners currently working in Sport and Active Leisure, including Osteopaths, Physiotherapists, Sports Therapists and Massage Therapists. The purpose of this Level 4 Sports Massage qualification is to enrich practitioners' understanding of advanced anatomical, physiological and pathological principles relevant to the application of Sports Massage. It will provide learners with advanced palpation skills and those needed to analyse posture and range of movement. It will also provide practitioners with a range of advanced skills and massage techniques to prevent and manage injury in sport and active leisure. Sports Massage Practitioners will learn to critically evaluate massage strategies and methods to inform on future treatments.

 

You will learn to work with and develop exercise programs for individuals, suffering from conditions such as arthritis, osteoporosis, stroke, cardiac problems, asthma, diabetes, hypertension, cancer wellness, orthopedic problems and conditions of the neck, shoulders, upper back, lower back, hips, knees, ankles, elbows and hands.

Course Cost €2,550 (this includes Exam fee, course notes)

Course will run one evening a week for 9 months (Monday)
