Micro Needling
Collagen induction therapy (CIT), also known as micro-needling, derma rolling, or skin needling, is a cosmetic procedure that involves repeatedly puncturing the skin with tiny, sterile needles (micro-needling the skin). It is classed as a
minimally invasive skin-rejuvenation procedure.
Micro-needling can be used to treat a number of skin concerns including: Skin rejuvenation - crow’s feet, fine lines, wrinkles, scarring, acne scarring, stretch marks, sun damaged skin, uneven skin tone & cellulite.
Micro-needling is applied to the skin using either a roller or pen containing tiny micro-needles that penetrate through the top surface layer of the skin; this creates tiny channels or micro traumas without causing damage to the skin. Treatment serums are applied to the skin via the channels formed from the micro-needles.
Micro needling relies on the principle of neocollagenesis (new collagen production) and neovascularization (formation of functional microvascular networks with red blood cell perfusion) that occurs as a result of the release of growth factors following needle piercing of the stratum corneum. Growth factors are believed to be responsible for the beneficial effects of the procedure in the treatment of scars and photo ageing.
